Meet Our Staff

Aly Cerda | Editor in Chief

Aly Cerda is a senior Psychology and Sociology double major at Southwestern University. Aly took from her mom growing up by falling in love with writing. She joined her first newspaper staff at 14 years old in high school and continued her journalism passion into university. She began writing for the Megaphone her freshman year, became the Opinions section editor her junior year, and is ending her university experience as the Editor in Chief. For Aly, The Megaphone is a space for students to let their voice be heard and help the student body stay up to date on current events and campus news.

Abbey Archer | Social Media Manager

Abbey is an English major with minors in Psychology and Communications. She is a freelance writer and media manager who has aspirations of running her own publication one day. Abbey runs the Megaphone’s social media and website in addition to regularly contributing articles. When she isn’t working… she’s probably writing.

He hopes to one day earn an internship (or even a job!) at The Texas Tribune or NPR.H

John Guerrero | Sports and Lifestyle Editor

John transferred to Southwestern the second semester of his freshman year and has loved Southwestern since he stepped foot on campus. John is also a member of the Southwestern Pirate Football team where he plays as a defensive lineman. In his free time, John enjoys reading anything he can get his hands on and is always ready for a lively discussion regarding history, politics, sports, or any other topic. In the future, John would like to attend law school and one day work for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a banking regulations lawyer.

Grace Parmer | Staff Writer

Hi! I am Grace Parmer, and I have been a writer for The Megaphone since the spring semester of 2021. My passion is politics, especially women’s rights. This is reflected in my articles for the Megaphone, as I tend to write mostly about these subjects. I believe that it is very important for college students to have a voice in current events. I am grateful to be able to have the freedom of the press through expressing myself in the Megaphone, and the pen is mightier than the sword!
