HI USA Offers Travel Scholarships to Austin Area Students and Residents

HI USA is accepting applications for four $2,000 travel scholarships through May 15. The scholarships cover travel outside of the USA lasting a minimum of 7 days. Travel is to be completed by August 31, 2017
The scholarships are a resource for global travelers who want to experience another culture while giving back. The proposed travel must demonstrate an educational and service component.
The HI USA Mission is “To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling.”
Applicants must be legal residents of the USA and reside or attend school in the Austin area and be between the ages of 18-30. Eligible counties in the Austin area are Williamson County, Travis County, Bastrop County, Blanco County, Burnet County, Caldwell County, and Hays County.
Residents of the Houston area are also eligible to apply. Eligible counties in the Houston area include Harris County, Brazoria County, Chambers County, Fort Bend County, Galveston County, Montgomery County, Liberty County, and Waller County.
Applications can be completed online and all applicants will be informed of the local committee’s decision by June 25, 2016. Selected finalists also participate in an interview in their local area.
